Wandfluh UK supports celebration of Southam’s role in the English Civil Wars
By Trevor Allen 9th August 2013
The Battle of Southam, which took place on August 23rd 1642, was a major skirmish at the very start of England’s Civil Wars – two months before the famous Battle of Edge Hill.
On August 17th and 18th 2013 a living history event will take place in Southam town centre, inspired by the Battle of Southam and events that took place in and around the town during that momentous period of England’s history.
Attractions will include a parade of Civil War infantry, cavalry and artillery, 17th Century food, drink and music, demonstrations and displays of traditional rural crafts, war games, competitions and children’s activities.
A highlight of the weekend is sure to be the re-enactments of the Battle of Southam itself – with foot soliders, cavalry, cannon-fire, muskets, pikes and drums. One of the competing battalions is sponsored by Wandfluh UK.
The re-enactments will take place on both Saturday and Sunday, in and on the approach to Southam Recreation Ground, starting after lunch and finishing at approximately 4.30 pm.
